J8/AJ4YX

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

February 11 – 21, 2023 I will be on the air from Saint Vincent (Saint Vincent and the Grenadines), IOTA NA-109 as J8/AJ4YX. I have some other obligations during my stay, but I will be active as much as possible.

Are you still on Twitter? If so you can follow @J8_AJ4YX for most recent updates.

Plans
The weekend of 11/12 February I will spend some time (not the whole weekend) in the Dutch PACC contest. If I call “CQ PACC” please don’t come back to my CQ call if your prefix is not PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF, PG, PH or PI.

In the weekend of 18/19 February I will spend some time (not the whole weekend) in de ARRL International DX CW Contest, providing a multiplier for participating stations.

The other days expect me to be QRV mostly in phone and FT8, although from time to time I will show up in CW.

Equipment and antenna’s

Radio: Elecraft K3S
Antenna’s: verticals + dipole, installed close to the Caribbean Sea
Bands: 10-80m (including 60m*)
Modes: SSB, CW and FT8 (f/h)

*Some people asked me about being QRV on 60 meter. I contacted NTRC and the answer can be found below. So expect me (also) to be QRV on 60m during my stay.

About using FT8 in fox/hound mode:
– J8 is no. 131 on the global most wanted DXCC-list.
– J8 is no. 46 on the list for Asia.
– According to Club Log J8 data-QSOs are considered to be “harder slots because of infrequent activity“.

For these reasons I consider it acceptable to use the “dxpedition-mode” Fox/Hound during my activity. The following FT8 frequencies will be used:
3,567 – 5,357* – 7,065 – 10,131 – 14,090 – 18,095 – 21,091 – 24,911 – 28,091.
Please (as always), call above 1000 Hz.

*60m FT8 will be in normal mode.
